Tags let you group related deadlines so they’re easier to find and filter. This page explains how to create, use, and manage tags.

What are Tags?

A tag is a short label you attach to one or more deadlines. Tags are reusable — create a tag once and use it on as many deadlines as you like.

Tags are optional. They’re most useful when you have several deadlines and want to see a focused view of just one category at a time.

Adding a Tag to a Deadline

When creating or editing a deadline, scroll to the Tags (optional) section.

  1. Tap the tag input field.
  2. Start typing a tag name.
  3. If the tag already exists, it appears as a suggestion — tap it to add it.
  4. If it’s a new tag name, a “Create new tag” option appears — tap it to create and add the tag at the same time.

Choosing a color for a new tag

Before creating a new tag, pick a color using the color selector. The color appears as a dot next to the tag name in lists. Use colors to distinguish categories at a glance — for example, red for urgent categories, green for financial, blue for subscriptions.

Filtering by Tags

In the Upcoming and Overdue tabs, tap the filter icon (top-right of the list) to open the tag filter panel.

Select one or more tags to show only deadlines that match. To clear the filter, tap Clear All.

This is useful when you want to focus on one area:

  • Show only Subscriptions to review all your renewal dates at once
  • Show only Contracts before your annual contract review
  • Show only Taxes during filing season

Managing Tags

Open the menu (hamburger icon, top-right) and tap Manage Tags to see all your tags in one place.

From here you can:

  • Change a tag’s color — tap the color dot next to the tag name
  • Delete a tag — tap the delete icon

When you delete a tag, it is removed from all deadlines that used it. The deadlines themselves are not affected — they simply lose that tag.

Good Tag Naming

Tags work best when they are short, consistent, and meaningful to you. Here are some ideas:

Tag name What to track
Subscriptions Streaming, software, apps, news
Contracts Employment, rental, service agreements
Insurance Car, home, health, travel
Taxes Filing deadlines, estimated payments
Warranties Electronics, appliances, vehicles
Finance Loan payments, credit cards
Health Prescriptions, appointments, check-ups
Travel Visa expiry, passport renewal, booking cancellations

Practical Examples

Review all subscriptions at once

You have 8 subscriptions across different services. Each deadline is tagged “Subscriptions”. Once a month, you open Deadline Guard, filter by “Subscriptions”, and review which ones are coming up soon.

Annual contract review

You tag all work-related contracts with “Contracts”. During your annual review, you filter by that tag to see which contracts are expiring in the next 3 months and which ones need renewal.

Pre-travel checklist

Before an international trip, you tag deadlines for your visa, travel insurance, and booking cancellation windows with “Travel”. You filter by the tag 2 months before departure to make sure everything is in order.

Tips

  • You can add multiple tags to a single deadline. For example, a car insurance renewal could have both “Insurance” and “Finance”.
  • Tag names are case-insensitive — “Subscriptions” and “subscriptions” are the same tag.
  • If you don’t use tags yet, you can add them to existing deadlines at any time by editing the deadline.
